The material used is either C45 steel which can be both welded and hardened, or GG22 close grain cast iron.
All standard steel sprockets are produced from either sawn bar or from a forged block.
Special sprockets in small quantities are produced from a plate and then welded onto a hub.
• With a ball bearing insert, these sprockets are available in British Standard sizes 05B through to 20B
• Also available are sprockets to suit ANSI chain in sizes 35 – 80

Machine cut simplex idler sprockets for British Standard and ANSI transmission roller chains. Sprockets are supplied with their bearing already fitted. Numerous standard sprockets are available although sprockets can also be manufactured to suit our customers requirements.
Linking drives and chains - Sprockets
Transmission and Conveyor chains are driven by sprockets. The even distribution of power relies on accurate gearing between the sprocket teeth and the chain rollers or bush.

Transmission Roller Chain Sprockets
Manufactured from medium carbon C45 which can be both hardened and welded or close grain GG22 cast iron for accuracy and wear resistance from our existing casting patterns. All standard steel sprockets are machined from a either a sawn or forged block which ensures and accurate tooth profile and a high-quality finished sprocket.
The standard range includes taper bore, pilot bore, plate wheels and idler sprockets.
Special Sprockets and Low Quantities
Challenge are able to manufacture special transmission roller chain sprockets when an item from the standard range does not suit the requirements. These sprockets are produced from plate before a boss is welded. This manufacturing process allows us to provide a cost-effective solution within a sensible time frame. We are also able to complete any design and tooth profile drawings for manufacture given the chains dimensions.
Finished machining can also be offered; for example taper bores, metric and imperial bores and keys, splines, gib head keys and many other options.
